Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division has just unveiled the GR GT, its new supercar featuring a potent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid engine.

The car was developed alongside the GR GT3 race car and features an aluminum structure, multiple carbon fiber components, and dimensions similar to an AMG GT.

Under the hood of the GT lies a short-stroke 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Toyota stated that the hybrid powertrain will deliver a combined output of at least 641 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque, with a claimed top speed of at least 320 km/h.

This is the first time Toyota has released such a bold car since the Lexus LFA, whose production ended in 2012. According to Car and Driver, the brand drew inspiration from the Japanese concept of demolishing a temple to rebuild it, known as Shikinen Sengu.

Just as temple builders teach a new generation to create something magnificent, the new GR GT is an attempt to pass on the supercar construction knowledge from the LFA generation to the next.

On the outside, it features an aggressive appearance thanks to its design, black-painted roof, and large tires, with a long hood reaching knee height. In terms of dimensions, it is similar to the Mercedes AMG GT, but the GR GT roofline is 15 centimeters lower.

Inside, the car evokes even more memories of a Lexus. The two-seat cabin features a digital instrument panel and an evolved design that builds on what the LFA introduced over a decade ago.

Since rear visibility is obstructed, it includes a rearview mirror with a camera to help see who is trailing behind.

The price has not yet been announced, but Toyota representatives did not rule out Car and Driver‘s suggested range of $350,000 to $400,000, placing it alongside models such as the Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari 296, Ford Mustang GTD, McLaren 750S, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
